HYMS Rugby is the original team for which the SA was conceived. It consists of male and female rugby union teams from both Hull and York campuses and all year groups. We train on a Thursday evening in Hull and welcome all abilities. The men’s team play in a local league on Saturday afternoons mainly in the first and second terms of the year. The women’s team is a rugby 7’s team who play other medical schools throughout the year. The club also attends the NAMS 7’s tournament and goes on tour on Easter weekend each year.

Takes place on Easter weekend so we have the Friday and the Monday as bank holidays. On Thursday evening we have a training sessions with drinks and games followed by a pre-tour drinking circle in Hull. We leave for our touring destination on the Friday morning in minibuses and usually get there mid-afternoon, after unloading the minibus we go on a pub crawl and get food. Meeting later for a drinking circle. The Saturday we play a rugby match against a local team followed by drinks at their clubhouse and a fancy dress night out after. The Sunday we travel back and the Monday we rest. It costs around £90 and usually 20 or so of us go.

Why join?

Rugby is a enjoyable game and a good way to exercise. As well as playing sport the club also runs various socials throughout the year, like drinking circles, old boys weekend, nights out and post training drinks which are always good fun. Its also a good way to get to know the older years and there are plenty of events to get involved with.
