Ballers gonna ball
HYMS Hull Netball is now the leading sports society for the Hull York Medical School, we have 3 teams which play regular matches weekly. HYMS Hearts team and HYMS Brains team play in competitive local leagues. The Hearts are currently in division 6 and the Brains are in division 9 in the Humberside Winter leagues.
We have been successful against other medical schools such as Liverpool, Cardiff, Sheffield, York and Manchester in tournaments.
We have encouraged up to 20 first years to join and give HYMS netball a go this year and now we have a society with over 50 players covering all ranges of years from Hull and also York netballers who have placement in Hull joining in our netball training sessions and playing in our teams. We aim to offer enjoyable sessions of Netball weekly for players of any ability and to teach girls how to play and improve their netball skills. Hull Netball is also extremely important for HYMS students to get a break from the stresses of studying medicine and enjoy a physical and social side to sport.
We integrate all the year groups of HYMS together meaning you make a wide range of friends throughout the different phases of the course. We also have regular socials as a netball team and combined with some of the other HYMS sports teams. The yearly Sheff Fest is a weekend away in Sheffield with a great day of Netball followed by an enthusiastic fancy dress social in the evening. Anyone involved with HYMS sport will also understand the rivalry between the Hull and York matches which always provide a good level of competition and light hearted banter.
